Food Safety

Food safety has become a standard expectation of any produce industry to maintain and build consumer confidence. With the advent of produce outbreaks due to food safety issues, there has never been a more important time for our industry to build on our growing and handling practices to provide a safe, healthy watermelon supply.

The NWA has a great quantity of important food safety information available to members.  Our Watermelon Food Safety Guidance which is written specifically for watermelon is now updated to include all of the elements of the Food Safety Modernization Act.

Research

The NWA commits to research projects every year that dive into issues affecting the industry like Anthracnose, Gummy Stem Blight, Powdery Mildew, and more. The current projects and past projects are all available to members on our research page.
