WIC Funding Preserved

Lawmakers approve funding for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, including a $1 billion increase. Proposed changes would have reduced fruit and vegetable benefits by 70% for women and 56% for children, decreasing produce intake among vulnerable populations. Failure to act would have put families on a waitlist and resulted in a $1.2 billion yearly revenue loss for the produce industry. The House passed the bill, and the Senate is considering it.
